WHY COMMUTE BY RAIL?

 

·          It is there!   The rights-of-way and track already exist.  New highways or adequate road    improvements, to current highways, take 20 to 25 years to meet environmental and legal challenges.  New highways require expensive new rights-of-way or extended rights-of-way.

·          It is safer!   No juggling food and phones while driving.

·          Cheaper to maintain!   Less temperature effect requiring less upkeep.

·          Can switch fuel!  Not at mercy of oil prices.

·          No parking expense!  Land abundant in outlying stations.

·          Work while riding!   Phones and computer can be plugged in and we can eat as we ride.

·          It is kinder to environment!   Less pollution.  Uses less land. Uses less Wetland.  Conserves resources and has potential to use electric power.

·          More dependable!   Less effected by snow and ice storms.

·          Increase jobs!   Offer cheaper, yet commutable Back office locations

·          Access to Metropolitan perks!   Rural living, yet access to World Class entertainment, recreation, educational opportunities, and medical services.

·          Migrating to business centers unnecessary!   Can have demanding jobs inter-city, but home in country on lakes and rivers.

·          Upgrade available job opportunities!   Higher educated and special trained job become available as scope of travel expands.

·          Encourage job providing industries and businesses to local further from transportation hubs!

·          Provide links to the nations major transportation modes!   Link to planned High-Speed Rail and International Hub Airports.

·          Provide Eastern North Carolina Military transportation!    Military going to TDY assignments and their dependents easier access to long-term transportation without parking expenses.

·          Makes highways more usable by limited “gridlock” and lessen repairs!.

·          Make North Carolina eligible for designated Federal funding!  This will allow overall upgrading of rail system to benefit commuter, passenger, and freight.

·          Encourage continued use of city infrastructure!  Instead of requiring new infrasture while abandoning current paid for assets, it will provide more users to existing assets.
